How is the due date calculated?

Naegele's rule: 280 days (40 weeks) from the first day of the last period, adjusted for cycle length; from conception, 266 days.

How accurate is it?

Only a small share of babies are born on the exact date. An early ultrasound gives the most accurate date; follow your doctor's dates.
