FAQ

Why does my message sometimes allow only 70 characters?

An emoji, curly quotes or some accented letters don't fit the basic GSM-7 encoding, so the message is sent as Unicode: 70 characters, and 67 per part when it splits.

Does one emoji really make a difference?

Yes. One emoji in an English message drops it from 160 to 70 characters, and an emoji usually counts as two characters.

Do links count?

Yes, every character in a link counts. A short link saves characters.

Is my text sent to you?

No. The counting happens in your browser, and nothing is saved.
